Saturday Morning Blacksmith Demonstrations
We are pleased to invite the public to watch our volunteer blacksmiths demonstrate traditional blacksmithing at the Waldie Blacksmith Shop on most Saturday mornings during the Downtown Milton Farmers Market on Main Street.
Our volunteer blacksmiths will be forging steel on the anvil the same way blacksmiths have done for many generations. Ironworking is a craft that almost fell into oblivion, however today many have taken up this old craft which was handed down through the decades.
While visiting feel free to look around the Waldie Blacksmith shop to view an assortment of equipment used by the blacksmith many years ago including the Barcus horse stocks, heavy equipment used to cut and bend steel, a display case of blacksmith tools used for horseshoeing and of course a large collection of horseshoes hanging on the beams.
You can also view some finished steel pieces made by some of our blacksmiths including fireplace pokers, hot dog fork, towel racks and more, which are for sale.
Feel free also to ask questions of our greeters. We also have flyers & pamphlets available about the activities and programs of the Milton Historical Society including information about our Blacksmith courses.
Our shop is open to welcome visitors on Saturday mornings between 9 am and 12 pm. We hope you will drop in while the Farmers Market is open!
